A premature baby who was admitted to the ICU in Bagé, Rio Grande do Sul, was transferred by plane last Thursday (30) to receive specialized care at a reference hospital in the city of Pelotas. The action between the Brazilian Navy and Air Force also included the collaboration of the Army.
The child was born at 35 weeks of gestation and had complications resulting from an infection in the umbilical cord. During the pre-boarding assessment, the patient was considered stable and breathing without the need for auxiliary equipment. The flight covered a distance of approximately 190 kilometers.
Inside the aircraft, there was a crew team made up of a doctor and a nurse, as well as the child's mother.
“The operation highlighted the relevance of interoperability between the Forces for the safe and efficient fulfillment of operational health missions”, stated First Lieutenant Gustavo Moura de Almeida.
Upon landing in Pelotas, the baby was immediately taken to the city's emergency room by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) team, where he received the necessary care.
