Military plane crashes into residential area in China, leaving at least one dead

A Chinese military plane crashed into a residential area in China on Thursday, killing at least one person, Chinese national state broadcaster CCTV said.

The plane, a J-7 aircraft of the People’s Liberation Army Air Force, was on a training mission in Hubei province when it crashed, damaging several homes.

One resident was killed and two others were injured, according to the broadcaster.

The pilot, who suffered minor injuries, was successfully ejected from the plane and parachuted to the ground before crashing, state media agency Xinhua reported.

Both the pilot and the injured civilians were sent to hospitals.

Videos circulating on social media show some houses on fire, which is believed to have been caused by the accident, which occurred near Laohekou airport in Xiangyang, Hubei province.

The cause of the accident and related casualties are under investigation, with emergency response underway, state media said.
