The Military Police arrested businessman Dirceu Santos Frederico Sobrinho, known as Rei do Ouro, in São Paulo. The information confirmed by CNN this Monday morning (19).
Dirceu was caught in a routine police checkpoint on Sunday (18) and had an open request for temporary arrest issued by the Federal Court of Rondônia.
He was forwarded to the Federal Police and, shortly thereafter, to the custody sector where he will await further court decisions.
The Gold King was wanted on suspicion of illegal extraction of gold on indigenous lands in Mato Grosso and Pará, and accused of usurpation of Union assets, fraudulent reception and environmental damage.
He is one of the main buyers of gold in the municipality of Itaituba, in Pará.
Dirceu Frederico would be a partner of the securities distributor FD Gold, in São Paulo. The process on the case runs in secrecy.
CNN has contacted FD Gold but has not yet heard back.
