A helicopter of the Military Police (PM) of Rio de Janeiro was shot during an operation in Complexo do Alemão, in the north of the capital, this Thursday (21). No occupant of the aircraft was injured.
According to the Secretary of State for the Military Police, information from the intelligence sector points to “criminals in this region practicing vehicle robberies, mainly in the areas of the Grande Méier, Irajá and Pavuna neighborhoods”.
About 400 civil and military police, four aircraft and 10 armored vehicles are involved in the operation and at least four people died – one policeman and three civilians (two men and one woman) – and one was injured.
The police action began around 6 am this Wednesday. Part of the traffic is blocked and some schools in the region are not working.
In the early afternoon, security agents seized a 50 point machine gun, used to try to shoot down aircraft and pierce armored vehicles, and two rifles.
