Military Police officer is shot dead in Baixada Fluminense; PM sergeant is suspected of the crime

A Military Police corporal was killed on Sunday night (7), in the city of Belford Roxo, in Baixada Fluminense. He was shot by a colleague in uniform.

According to the Civil Police, the crime took place in the Sargento Roncalli neighborhood.

Corporal Anderson Gabriel Zaniboni, aged 36, was reportedly killed after an argument with Sergeant Rodrigo de Andrade Pelegrini.

The Baixada Fluminense Homicide Police Station is investigating the case. The DHBF chief delegate, Dr. André Cavalcante, informed that the sergeant has already been heard.

“Rodrigo de Andrade Pelegrini appeared at the DHBF and reported having exchanged shots with Anderson, narrating circumstances in which he sought to justify his conduct by self-defense. He said he took the victim to Belford Roxo Hospital, where she died,” said the delegate.

The sergeant also said that only later did he find out that he had shot a military police officer. An investigation was launched and the Civil Police are investigating whether this was in fact what happened, whether or not there was self-defense.

Some messages circulating on social media indicate that the two PMs were at a party celebrating the victory of a councilor and had argued.

After the argument, the corporal was shot and killed. He was rescued by the sergeant himself to the Belford Roxo Municipal Hospital.

The 3rd Military Judicial Police Station is also monitoring the case. Three weapons were seized.
