Military Police vehicle is shot at in a favela in the north of Rio

Agents from the 41st Military Police Battalion (Irajá) were shot at during a patrol at one of the access points to Morro do Juramento, in the north of Rio de Janeiro, in the early hours of this Friday (17).

According to the unit’s command, a team from the Tactical Actions Group was received with “hostility” by the group of criminals, who fired shots at the vehicle. There was a confrontation and the police team reacted.

After the shooting ended, the military managed to capture three men accused of participating in the attacks on police officers. Two 5.56 caliber rifles and a 9mm caliber pistol were seized from the criminals, as well as ammunition. The accused were injured. They were then taken to the Getúlio Vargas State Hospital and are in custody. Their health status has not yet been reported.

One of those arrested in the operation is the criminal known as “77”. He had already been arrested between October and December 2024 for association with drug trafficking and illegal possession of a restricted firearm (rifle).
