Milk diet, a possible choice?

Here we are at the time of the year when everyone has to deal with the extravagances of winter. And in these months of forced quarantine and little opportunity to move there are very few who can boast of having remained in perfect shape.
But the costume fitting is just around the corner, so what can we do? We try to run for cover with diets, physical activity, reducing creams, draining massages, “miraculous” preparations …

You know, the web is full of diets, a simple search is enough to see the most varied diets appear: minestrone, lemon, chetogenica, raw food diet, dissociated and so on and so forth.

Not to mention the trends brought to the fore by celebrities, sometimes really absurd; you may have heard of the Renee Zellwegger’s ice diet, Adriana Lima’s liquid diet or, even more extravagant, Reese Whiterspoon’s food based on baby food…

In this article we want to talk to you about a diet that is perhaps little known, but which cyclically does not fail to attract attention and followers: the milk diet.

Diet regime imported from Portugal, this low-calorie diet promises to make you lose up to 5 kg in just 8 days. The menu is very rigid and does not foresee any mistakes or modifications. It is a semi-liquid diet: on certain days of the week you shouldn’t drink alone latte, but solid foods such as fruits and lean proteins are also allowed.

Milk diet: how it works

According to some Portuguese nutritionists, it would be possible to use milk to lose weight quickly and get rid of a few excess pounds. As the name suggests, it is a diet that it is based almost exclusively on a single food which must be consumed every day in large quantities, in combination with other low-calorie foods.

Obviously, it cannot be simply said that milk makes you lose weight but that, used as the basis for a low-calorie diet like this, can make you lose several kilos in a short time.

Like all other diets that focus on just one food, this one too it should not be followed for too long – maximum eight days – in order not to create serious imbalances in the organism. Furthermore, being very rigid, it is recommended to those who can resist hunger and a little varied diet for several days; it is in fact a very restrictive regime, psychologically and physically stressful. And, like all unbalanced diets from a nutritional point of view, it would be good to consult your doctor before starting it, to avoid risks and unpleasant side effects.

The result is ensured by the fact that they assume approx 500 calories on liquid diet days and you get to 700 calories on days when solid foods are also allowed. The body will then be forced to draw on the reserves of fat and this inevitably leads to a decrease in weight (however, know that part of the lost pounds especially at the beginning they consist mainly of liquids).

The opinion of the nutritionist

«The milk diet is based on a considerable consumption of this food which, together with a few other foods, represents the fundamental element of a nutritional regimen to be followed for no more than 1 week. It is an unhealthy diet as it is unbalanced and does not guarantee the supply of all the necessary nutrients, which instead does a healthy and complete diet “he declares Dr. Angela Cavolina, nutritionist of EpiCura, digital clinic that includes a network of over 800 certified professionals.

“Furthermore, it should be stressed that not everyone can follow this regime. It is not recommended for pregnant and lactating women, for all those with particular pathologies, for children and adolescents who, as they grow, risk having very serious nutritional deficiencies if their diet is not complete with all the nutrients and, of course, for those who are lactose intolerant», continues the nutritionist.

«Like all diets based on a single food, this too must be followed only for a short time (a few days). In fact, too restrictive diets based on the intake of few nutrients make you lose weight quickly, but they can be seriously harmful to health if continued for a long time. For this reason it is always best to seek the advice of a nutrition professional», concludes the doctor.
