Millennials, the mute generation: they do not talk on the phone because it causes them ‘amsiety’

The millennials (born between 1981 and 1996) are the generation that grew up to adulthood during the unfolding of the digital age. This caused that their way of relating is completely different from that of predecessor and successor generations. One of the most characteristic features is that, in general terms, they prefer to communicate by text messages than by means of calls or voice notes.

This peculiar aspect of communication led experts to name them the Dumb Generation. In addition, the BankMyCell company undertook the task of conducting a survey with more than a thousand people, determining the possible causes of this behavior, and here we tell you about them.

The BankMyCell company realized that its clients belonging to the generation millennial they did not dial their phones to speak with the same regularity as the rest. To try to understand what was happening and how they could help, they interviewed more than 1,200 people, who answered the reasons why they avoid phone calls.

Based on the responses, it was determined that:

• 75 percent believe that a call can take a long time and prefer to communicate quickly
• 55 percent reject calls because they are at an event
• 49 percent believe the caller needs a favor
• 46 percent believe there will be a verbal confrontation
• 41 percent believe there are too many people around who will listen to their talk
• 37 percent receive calls during work hours and cannot answer

BankMyCell also found that the majority of respondents had telenophobia, which is described as the fear of interacting by phone call in public spaces, causing anxiety. This leads to people rejecting, ignoring and / or even programming their phones to not receive calls.

Due to the results, it was also determined that hiding behind a device can greatly affect development and social interaction in situations as basic as this.
