Millie Bobby Brown revealed, on Thursday (29), that Jake Bongiovi asked for her hand in marriage in an unusual way.
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on the latest edition of The Tonight Show, the “Stranger Things” and “Enola Holmes” actress said that she received her engagement ring during a diving session on a vacation trip. The two publicly announced their engagement in April 2023.
“Basically, Jake and I bonded over the dive. We love diving, we got our licenses together,” said Millie. “He gave me a shell, I turned it over and it was a ring,” she said.
She also said that she went to great lengths to be able to communicate with her fiancé during the proposal, as it is not possible to speak underwater. She explained that, in diver language, giving a “thumbs up” does not mean saying “yes”, but is an indication that you want to rise to the surface. In that situation, all she could do was say “OK” with her hand.
“It was a little disheartening, but we freaked out,” said the actress.
To complete the scene, Bongiovi, who is Jon Bon Jovi's son, had to be quick to capture the ring after the piece came off Millie's finger when she went to show the item on her finger.
“It fell so fast it looked like a movie. Jake threw himself so deep that he said: 'You can't do that, your brain will explode”, he recalled, and later said that the groom managed to recover the ring.
