Ford and Google have announced a strategic partnership. Beginning in 2023, Ford and Lincoln vehicles will move to “car” Android.

Ford now uses Ford’s proprietary Sync 3 multimedia system, which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Ford’s official press release states:
Millions of future Ford and Lincoln vehicles at all price points will be equipped with Android with built-in Google apps and services. ”
Journalists interpret this statement in slightly different ways. Someone talks about the use of Android Auto, and someone talks about the implementation of Android Automotive. Ford and Google themselves have not yet specified such details.
Ford and Lincoln vehicles will work with Google services and applications such as the Google Assistant voice assistant, Google Maps and navigation, Google Play app store. It is also reported that Ford has chosen Google Cloud as its primary storage.
Recall that the Android Automotive operating system was introduced in 2018, and the Polestar 2 became the first car with a corresponding infotainment system.
