It was just another text by sports columnist Milly Lacombe from the UOL portal, but it became yet another public exchange of barbs on social networks. The journalist wrote a column titled “Choosing the best and worst is a portrait of toxic masculinity in football”, published on Tuesday (3), where she criticized the choice of former player Pedrinho, current TV Globo commentator, as best commentator of the year 2022, made by athletes from the Brazilian championship.
Milly classified the election of the former athlete, to the detriment of names like Ana Thais Matos, also from Globo, and Walter Casagrande who went to UOL after leaving Globo, appointed as the worst commentators, as “the role of toxic and fragile masculinity in the football”. Earlier, she praised Pedrinho’s work as a commentator.
The journalist said that the former player won the poll “for being the alpha male of this story”.
Pedrinho showed that he did not like the text and used his social networks to “reply” to the journalist. In a video on his Instagram profile, the commentator said that Milly was prejudiced.
“You, who preach many things, but do everything differently. You who fight prejudice and were prejudiced against me. Labeling me the alpha male, the dominant male. I don’t even know what you’re talking about, “said the former athlete in the publication, where he continued.
“I have two daughters, girls, twins. I’m a reference to them. You are not going to label me, you are not going to seal up on me, ”she said.
Pedrinho’s post received comments from broadcaster colleagues, such as presenter Thiago Leifert, and from national team players such as Thiago Silva and Neymar.
But, the journalist continued to talk about Pedrinho in her column this Wednesday (4). In a text with the title “Pedrinho, come back here: you didn’t understand what I wrote”, Milly says that she was saddened by the former athlete’s perception of what she wrote.
“As a fan of the athlete that I saw play many times, I was sad to realize that he had not understood everything I pointed out in the text. But I was also a little flattered because it’s not every day someone like him notices our existence. It wasn’t for that, I thought. And it wasn’t. The text praises him, chosen as the best commentator by players”, says the journalist’s column, which continues.
“Pedrinho is an excellent commentator, as I have said a few times. He deserved the award, no doubt. The text mentions him by name because he was the victor. To talk about the election of best and worst and their meanings in this very masculine world, I needed to mention the names. The video he recorded reinforces point by point everything I wrote”, pointed out Milly.
Before publishing the column, she also used her Twitter profile to talk about the column’s content about Pedrinho’s choice as the best commentator.
