The international exhibition of military equipment IDEX 2021 will take place in Abu Dhabi from 21 to 25 February. The Estonian company Milrem Robotics, which specializes in the development of robotic vehicles for the military, promised to show the Type-X Robotic Combat Vehicle (RCV) for the first time at this event …
The RCV Type-X’s mission is to support mechanized units as “smart slave” main battle tanks and infantry fighting vehicles. It is assumed that the use of RCV for solving dangerous tasks and in dangerous positions will help reduce risks to personnel.

A robotic combat vehicle can be equipped with a cannon of up to 50 mm caliber in order to perform on an equal footing with a unit equipped with infantry fighting vehicles in tactical and fire terms.
The vehicle will be equipped with intelligent features such as follow me, waypoint navigation and obstacle detection. However, Milrem calls the key innovation a completely new approach, allowing remote control at higher speeds.

The maximum speed of the car is 80 km / h on paved roads and 50 km / h off-road. The low weight (12 tonnes) of the Type-X and high engine power, coupled with efficient power management, provide excellent off-road capability, while the low headroom and rear engine position ensure low visibility in the visible and thermal range.
The manufacturer notes that in the design of the Type-X, knowledge gained from the development of the THeMIS unmanned vehicle, acquired by ten countries, including seven NATO members: France, Norway, Great Britain, Germany, Estonia and the United States, was used.
