Miltiadis Barvitsiotis met with the Slovak Deputy Foreign Minister

Deputy Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis met with Slovak Deputy Foreign Minister for European Affairs Martin Klus in Bratislava today at his invitation.

During the talks, as stated in a statement of the Deputy Minister, the high level of relations between Greece and Slovakia was confirmed, as well as the common will to further deepen the cooperation of the two countries, both bilaterally and at European level, in kind. “bridge” between Central and Southeastern Europe.

The focus was on developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the delinquent behavior of Turkey, the Cyprus issue, EU enlargement to the Western Balkans, the course of COVID19 vaccination, relations with the Visegrad countries, the rule of law, and the immigration and the energy crisis. While issues of bilateral, regional, trade cooperation were also discussed.

It is noted that Slovakia takes over the Presidency of the V4 group (Visegrad countries) next July, an event of particular importance for our country, the same announcement points out.

It is also reported that the talks also focused on issues on the agenda of the General Affairs Council and the European Council that are expected to be discussed in Brussels next week.

At the same time, Mr. Barvitsiotis informed his interlocutor about his recent trip to Russia, given the strategically important relationship between Slovakia and Russia in terms of energy.

Finally, the Deputy Minister thanked his friend and ally Slovakia for the immediate response to our country’s request for assistance during the devastating fires of last summer, by sending 30 vehicles and 75 firefighters.
