The singer Milton Nascimento 82, thanked the State University of Campinas (Unicamp) by the title of Doctor Honoris Cause granted by the institution.
In photos released on social networks this Sunday (13), the artist appears holding the honor. “My deep thanks to Unicamp and his collaborators, rector Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles and Professor Fernando Hashimoto for granted me this title of so much recognition and importance,” he wrote in the publication.
The title was granted to Milton in November 2024. The delivery took place at his home in Rio de Janeiro on February 25. Nevertheless, it was shown to the university community only last Thursday (10).
The miner, who recently won a documentary that portrays the backstage of his last tour, received the honor from the rector of the Paulista University Antonio José de Almeida Meirelles. At the site, the director of the tribute institute of arts and proponent Fernando Hashimoto was also present.
According to Meirelles, the ceremony was based on the “option of privileging, above all, the person of the honoree”, considering health issues and also the involvement of Milton Nascimento with other activities during the carnival period.
“We made all the effort to understand the difficulties and make this gesture of recognition of the importance of Milton to Brazilian culture. If we did the disclosure at that time, the meaning of the title delivery would be diluted by the other events in which he was involved,” he said in a press release.
The rector stressed that the singer left a mark in the history of Unicamp and also a whole generation of Brazilians.
