Milton Nascimento turns 80 and wins ranking of most recorded and played songs

This Wednesday (26) Milton Nascimento turns 80 and to honor the artist, one of the main references of MPB, Ecad (Central Office of Collection and Distribution) made a special study about his music.

The survey shows that “Maria Maria”, a partnership with Fernando Brant, was the most re-recorded song to date, with 144 recordings registered in the Ecad database, and its most played song in Brazil, in the last 10 years, in the main segments of public execution. Released in 1978, on the album “Clube da Esquina 2”, the song is one of the classics of the musician’s career.

Milton Nascimento was born in Rio de Janeiro, in 1942, but in Minas Gerais, being present in his work and for which he always declared his affection. In childhood, Milton was nicknamed Bituca from his friends. Throughout his career, he has received awards, such as the Grammy Awards, and was honored with the title of Doctor Honoris Causa in Music by the University of Berklee, Boston.

With a unique voice, remarkable songs and 60 years of career, Milton announced his farewell to the stage for this year.

The artist has 401 musical works and 1,191 recordings registered in the database of the collective management of music in Brazil, according to Ecad. In the last 10 years, he has had more than 90% of his income from public performance royalties on TVs, shows and radios.
