It was confirmed this Sunday (9) the second death in Minas Gerais from monkeypox. The case took place in the city of Pouso Alegre. With the death, the country has already recorded four deaths from the disease, two in the state of Minas Gerais and the other two in Rio de Janeiro.
According to a statement from the City Hall, the victim is a 21-year-old boy, with comorbidities, who had been hospitalized since September 11. In all, four diagnoses were confirmed in the city – including the one that died -, one is still under analysis and 45 were discarded.
In the country, according to a bulletin from the Ministry of Health, released last Friday (7), there are 8,340 confirmed cases, of which 4,586 are still under analysis. The state of São Paulo has the most positive cases, with 3,843 diagnoses.
The disease is caused by a virus and transmitted by close or intimate contact with an infected person with skin lesions. Transmission also occurs by contact with contaminated objects, fabrics and surfaces.
