The Minas Gerais Health Department reported this Monday (13th) that it is investigating two suspected cases of monkeypox in the state. Among the suspicions, the agency analyzes a death in the city of Uberlândia and a case in Ituiutaba.
The notifications were sent to the Center for Strategic Information on Health Surveillance (CIEVS-Minas). The death was reported by the city of Uberlândia on June 11, and the suspected case, from the city of Ituiutaba, was reported on June 12.
“They are the first two cases under investigation for the disease in the state of Minas Gerais. The cases have no history of displacement or travel abroad. Among the close contacts, there are still no symptomatic cases”, informed the state Health Department.

For laboratory diagnosis, the State Health Department guided the municipalities to collect samples for analysis by the Ezequiel Dias Foundation (Funed).
“All clinical data are also being analyzed by the technical team of SES-MG and the Ministry of Health for investigation and closure of cases. SES-MG, SRS Uberlândia, SRS de Ituiutaba and the municipal secretariats are investigating the cases, monitoring close contacts and making the necessary recommendations,” the government said.
The Ministry of Health confirmed this Sunday night (12) the third case of monkeypox in Brazil. This is a 51-year-old man who is isolated in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, after a trip to Portugal.
The other two confirmed cases are from the state of São Paulo, with one occurrence in the capital and another case in the city of Vinhedo, in the interior.
