A joint operation between the Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) and the Civil Police of Minas Gerais was launched earlier this week to investigate the diversion of funds from the health area within the city hall of Betim, in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte.
According to the investigation, those involved made the diversions of money using the bank accounts of mental health users of Betim’s public network, without their knowledge. About R$ 630,000 were withdrawn from the municipal fund, an amount that would be invested in the health area.
During the operation, three search and seizure warrants were carried out, in addition to other precautionary measures, such as the blocking of assets and breaches of bank and tax secrecy of those investigated.
A CNN sought the city of Betim, which said that “as soon as it had access to the allegations of irregularities involving the previous management of the Health Secretariat, it began the investigation of the facts through an administrative investigation opened by the Assistant Secretariat of Corregedoria, which had the collaboration of the Municipal Health Secretariat and the Attorney General’s Office ”. The prefecture also says that it issued a report of the investigations and sent it to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
