The municipalities of Minas Gerais have until December 31st of this year to use the financial resources intended to combat the Covid-19 pandemic in social assistance actions.
Authorization for the cities to use the remaining financial balances was given by the State government, through the State Secretariat for Social Development, with the aim of guaranteeing the continuity of policies to support the population in vulnerable situations.
The amounts can be used, among other things, to pay professionals who work in the execution of social assistance programs, as long as they comply with current legislation and the guidelines of the National Social Assistance Policy.
The Secretary of State for Social Development, Alê Portela, highlights that “the offer of social assistance services and occasional benefits was an important action to combat the effects of Covid-19 and the reprogramming of resources in recent years was essential for municipal managers to had more time to deal with the consequences of the health crisis”.
The management of resources transferred by the State to municipalities is monitored by the Municipal Social Assistance Councils, responsible for monitoring and approving accountability.
If any remaining balance is not used within the established period, it must be returned to the State Social Assistance Fund (Feas).
