The Civil Police of Minas Gerais is investigating the cause of a fire that left two dead at Santa Casa de Misericórdia in Belo Horizonte on Monday night (27).
Of the 26 nurses who needed medical care, 11 are still hospitalized at Hospital São Lucas – two at the Intensive Care Center (CTI).
According to the Minas Gerais Fire Department, the fire started after an equipment exploded and oxygen leaked. At the time of occurrence, 931 patients were hospitalized at the scene, said Santa Casa.
João Costa, the hospital’s legal director, reported that some patients had to be transferred to other units in the region, such as Hospital João XXIII and Hospital São Lucas. “The 10th floor will be isolated for recovery,” said Costa.
After inspections, firefighters concluded that the fire did not cause structural damage to the property.
