Miners are blamed for the shortage of 12-core Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 9 3900X processors. Miners of Raptoreum cryptocurrency are interested in these processors with their large L3 cache

It would seem that mining cryptocurrency using a central processor is a completely ineffective activity, but there are a lot of cryptocurrencies in the world, and some of them are just optimized for mining using a CPU. Raptoreum is one of those. It is mined using a combination of Cryptonite and x16r algorithms, for which the amount of L3 cache is critical. There is no equal to the AMD Ryzen Threadripper or Epyc 7742 processors, but there are not many of them, and the prices are impressive, so miners switched to AMD consumer CPUs.

According to the source, for mining Raptoreum, miners are buying 12-core Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 9 3900X, because they have the same 64 MB of L3 cache as the top Ryzen 9 3950X and Ryzen 9 5950X, and the price is lower. Actually, this is where the deficit comes from. It would seem that the CPU performance is not great (the “optimized” Ryzen 9 3900X and Ryzen 9 5900X with CL14 / CL16 latencies produce about 5100 H / s when mining Raptoreum), but this is enough to make Raptoreum mining more profitable than mining Monero.
