Miners in Belarus will pay for electricity at four tariffs

The new resolution of MART and the Ministry of Energy of Belarus states that mining centers and cryptocurrency miners are included in a separate group of energy consumers.

Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MART), Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Belarus
identified the volume of electricity used for data centers and miners, which starts from 25 million kWh per year or more.

“Organizations engaged in data processing, provision of services for the placement of information and related activities, including mining and data processing centers, refer to consumers with a volume of electricity consumption per year of 25 million kWh and more.”

In decree 62/57, four tariff groups have been developed for the category of data centers and miners, depending on the volume of electricity consumption:

  1. from 25 million kWh to 50 million kWh;

  2. from 50 million kWh to 300 million kWh;

  3. from 300 million kWh to 500 million kWh;

  4. from 500 million kWh.

After the mining of cryptocurrencies in Kyrgyzstan became the cause of the energy crisis, the authorities of the country have allocated a new tariff schedule with an increasing coefficient of 2.0 for miners and data center operators. Abkhazia also faced an energy crisis due to the mining of cryptocurrencies and extended the ban on the mining of cryptocurrencies and the import of mining equipment until March 31, 2022. Abkhazian authorities
are considering the possibility of increasing the import of electricity from the Russian Federation.
Recall that recently the Governor of the Irkutsk Region Igor Kobzev appealed to the Russian government with a request to assist in the recognition of mining as an entrepreneurial activity and to introduce a special tariff scale for cryptocurrency miners.
