Minimum freight floor will be updated if there is a 10% variation in diesel, says ANTT

After Petrobras readjusted the price of diesel oil at refineries by 8.87%, the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) clarified that it will update the minimum floor for road freight “if a variation greater than 10% is found in relation to the reference price ” adopted in the current table.

“ANTT systematically monitors the variation in the price of S10 diesel oil, based on a weekly survey carried out by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP). If a variation greater than 10% is found in relation to the reference price, the minimum floor table will be updated”, said the agency.

Since Tuesday (10th) the average sale price of diesel transferred from Petrobras refineries to distributors is R$ 4.91 per liter, R$ 0.40 more per liter.

ANTT also said that it is still not possible to say whether this new increase made by Petrobras will generate a revision of the floor.

“Only after the publication of the ANP survey, reflecting the average price charged at the pump, will the agency know whether it has reached the percentage of 10%. In other words, only if there is a full transfer of the announced readjustment to the price practiced at the pump will it be possible to assess the need to update the table”, added the agency.

The update of the freight table is not done immediately, because the Petrobras adjustment refers to the price of fuel in the refineries, while the value adopted as a reference in the freight table is the average of the prices charged at the pumps of gas stations , obtained in a weekly survey carried out by the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), and not those announced by the oil company.

The most recent update of the table was made on March 19, with a reference value of S10 diesel oil, of R$ 6,751 per liter.

Since then, there has been an increase of 0.05% in the average price of fuel at pumps, according to the most recent survey by the ANP, on May 6, measured at R$ 6.775 per liter.

By law, ANTT has to readjust the freight table every six months or when the diesel price variation is equal to or greater than 10% – when the trigger mechanism is activated.

The freight table was created in 2018 by the Michel Temer government, after the truck drivers’ strike that blocked roads and compromised the supply of fuel, medicines and food throughout Brazil.
