The Minister of Defense, José Múcio Monteiro, said this Tuesday afternoon (8) that an investigation has already begun to determine the causes of the crash of a Navy helicopter that left two dead in the interior of Goiás.
The aircraft crashed in the military area of the municipality of Formoso, about 80 kilometers from Brasília. In a press release, the Brazilian Navy stated that two soldiers died in the incident. The accident left six injured: two were taken to the Armed Forces Hospital and four to the Regional Hospital of Formosa.
“It is with a deep feeling of sadness and regret that, this Tuesday (8), due to an accident with a Brazilian Navy aircraft, two soldiers died during training in the region of Formosa (GO)”, said Múcio.
“According to the Naval Force, the Aeronautical Accident Investigation Commission has already started procedures to determine the causes and circumstances of the incident. The Ministry of Defense pays condolences, for the irreparable loss, to the relatives and friends of the military, victimized in the line of duty”, he concluded.
The Fire Department of Goiás told the CNN that there were 14 crew members on board, and that “there is no further information due to the difficulty of communication on site”. Below is a video of the crash site.
According to the Navy, the aircraft was a UH-15 Super Cougar model, belonging to the 2nd Squadron of General Purpose Helicopters, and participating in the “operational exercise carried out in the region of Formosa”.
“MB further informs that the Aeronautical Accident Investigation Commission has started procedures to determine the causes and circumstances of the incident. MB is providing full support to the military and family members involved,” concluded the Navy statement.
