Minister of Health will hold a public hearing to evaluate vaccines in children

The Ministry of Health will release a schedule to debate whether to adopt vaccination against Covid-19 for children between 5 and 11 years old approved by Anvisa on Thursday.

“We will disclose a schedule before making a decision. We want to discuss this matter with society. We will hold a public hearing. The ministry is going to carry out an analysis of all aspects of this vaccination,” Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga told CNN.

He, however, did not estimate a deadline for disclosing the schedule or when the public hearing should take place. “What I can say is that it will be quick”, he declared.

According to Queiroga, there is a contract to purchase 100 million doses with Pfizer that will be used to buy vaccines for children if the government decides to do so.

Queiroga denied that there is political pressure from President Jair Bolsonaro on the folder so that children are not vaccinated. “The president has never told me he is against it. He wants a technical analysis to be carried out and that is what we are going to do”, he said.

“The president is the head of state, he is the head of government. And we inform him of technical issues. Other than that, all the controversy surrounding the subject is smoke.”

In his weekly live on Thursday, Bolsonaro said he would disclose the name of the technicians from Anvisa who authorized the vaccination.
