Minister of Tourism admits reviewing rules for cruise travel in the country

The Minister of Tourism, Gilson Machado, told the CNN that Ômicron changed the scenario for the continuity of the cruise season in the country and that the government is re-evaluating the rules for boarding. This morning, the minister met with representatives of the ministries that sign the ordinance with the norms in force so far. The ordinance was issued on December 8 by the Health, Justice, Infrastructure and Civil House folders.

“Everything is being done within protocols, but no one was counting on Ômicron. We are re-evaluating the ordinance, when it was edited, Ômicron did not exist. And today it is known that most of these people may have the disease, but many are asymptomatic”, stated Machado.

The sector expected a resumption in 2022, but vessels have registered cases of Covid-19. An MSC ship is docked at the Port of Santos after passengers tested positive for coronavirus.

Minister Gilson Machado, who was in Maceió, travels this afternoon to Recife, where there will be new meetings. The minister will discuss the problem with authorities in municipalities that are directly impacted by cruise activity, such as Maceió and Salvador.
