Minister says he will work for the benefit of truck driver and taxi driver to perpetuate

The Minister of Labor and Welfare, José Carlos Oliveira, said this Monday (15) that he will work so that the payment of benefits for truck drivers and taxi drivers becomes a permanent public policy. Under current law, transfers of the two benefits end in December.

“I don’t see a problem with this policy perpetuating itself. I don’t see that this is impossible. Of course, it will depend on the economic situation of Brazil and the world. I welcome that we continue, as we are doing with Auxílio Brasil, with this income distribution. Whatever depends on me and our president, you can be sure, we will work so that these benefits are perpetuated, yes,” said Oliveira.

Making the benefits for truck drivers and taxi drivers permanent depends on the approval of a law in the National Congress. The government allocated R$ 7.4 billion for the payment of these installments until December.

So far, 190,861 truck drivers have already received the first two installments of R$1,000 of the benefit. In addition, 245,213 taxi drivers will receive the first two installments this Tuesday (16th). With these payments, the government will inject R$ 490.4 million into the economy.

Creating jobs with a formal contract

The Minister of Labor and Welfare also stated that Brazil should create 2 million formal jobs in 2022.

According to the minister, the government’s initial projection in January was that 1.5 million formal jobs would be created in the year.

However, in the first six months of 2022, 1,334,791 formal jobs were created in the country, according to data from the General Register of Employed and Unemployed (Caged).

“We will surpass the initial projection and we will reach 2 million jobs in 2022. We will release the Caged data for July in two weeks and we will present positive data once again. The economic recovery has helped in this process. The unemployment rate is already in single digits,” he said.
