The Minister of Women, Family and Human Rights, Cristiane Britto, visited this Thursday (21) the Hospital da Mulher Heloneida Studart, in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro where a woman was raped during childbirth.
According to the minister, the objective was to provide support to the nursing team that reported the case, in addition to knowing the network of protection for women in São João de Meriti.
“I saw a structure that works very well. I saw a team with a humanized care and that acted in the duty to protect human life and defend the violation of human rights, which happened in that place”, said Cristiane Britto.
In the afternoon, the minister also visited the team at the Women’s Defense Police Station (Deam) that is in charge of investigations into the case and reinforced the importance of the complaints.
“Our biggest concern now is to make not only society, but all teams aware of the importance of reporting. 70% of the victims of femicide have never reported it, but society and the medical profession, who have contact with this woman victim of violence, need to have the sensitivity to report it”, said Cristiane.
˜We have expanded our specific reporting channels for doctors and medical professionals. We have a channel that works through WhatsApp, through Telegram, and the objective is to avoid underreporting, which we know exists throughout the country,” he added.
On Tuesday (19), the Police Station for Assistance to Women of São João de Meriti, in Baixada Fluminense, concluded the investigation that investigated the anesthesiologist Giovanni Quintella Bezerra .
He was indicted for rape of a vulnerable woman against a parturient.
In addition to the victim who appears in the video released on the last 11, the Civil Police will open a new investigation to investigate the doctor’s conduct in the deliveries of other patients. In one Mesquita hospital alone, Giovanni participated in 44 procedures.
The anesthesiologist remains imprisoned in Bangu 8, in the Gericinó Complex, in the West Zone of the capital.
