The Minister of Mines and Energy, Adolfo Sachsida, said in a lunch debate with a group of business leaders this Wednesday (14) that Brazil needs to become a Canada in the mining area, as an example of sustainability, local development and competitiveness. According to him, the intention is to double “in five years” the sector’s share of GDP.
“We are working to strengthen the national mining agency. Generate safe, clean and cheap energy. With that I am absolutely sure that our country will grow”
The event, which was held in a hotel in the capital of São Paulo, discussed “The future of the energy and mineral resources sector in Brazil”.
According to Sachsida, judicialization is today the biggest problem. It is necessary to find out where the “big bottlenecks in the country” are and bring investments here. For this, the minister believes it is necessary to listen to the private sector so that it can choose energy priorities.
“We have to have the best legal frameworks in the world for sustainable exploration of the Brazilian subsoil. The private sector has to decide that. For that, we have to have an environmental and social commitment. That’s my commitment while I’m in the Ministry.”
Also during the event, the minister said again that he does not understand the fact that economists from large banks are so wrong in their predictions.
“It is not common for people trained as bank analysts to make mistakes all the time. There’s something very different going on in Brazil. The market is looking at the demand side and not the supply curve.”
