Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation: “It makes no sense to ban household mining”

Alexei Yakovlev, Director of the Financial Policy Department of the Ministry of Finance, believes that it is inappropriate to prevent individuals from mining cryptocurrencies.

Director of the Department of Financial Policy of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation Alexei Yakovlev, speaking at a video conference on the regulation of cryptocurrency mining, said that mining can be useful to the state only if it is carried out on an industrial scale.

“We believe that it is necessary to concentrate on the development of industrial mining, but it probably does not make sense to ban household mining,” the head of the department said.

Yakovlev said that the necessary amendments would soon be made to the draft law on the supervision of digital assets. The official emphasized that interested parties will focus their attention on the section of the bill dedicated to the mining of cryptocurrencies.

The authors of the project pay special attention to solving the problem of maximum economic feasibility of mining. The draft law reflects the possibility of reducing risks in terms of combating money laundering and terrorist financing, as well as “ensuring the energy security of the state.”

The Public Chamber of the Russian Federation supported the decision on the advisability of legalizing all types of mining. Taxation of crypto-currency mining The Public Chamber proposed to submit it for a separate discussion and vote.

The first deputy chairman of the chamber for economics, Ilya Semin, said that for the sake of economic efficiency, territorial planning should be taken into account when placing industrial mining centers. This will avoid competition between cryptocurrency companies and create new jobs throughout the Russian Federation. To do this, Semin called on the authorities to ensure control over investments in industrial mining.

Recently, the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation called on the government to speed up the legalization and regulation of cryptocurrency mining. Last week, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak saw the expediency of legalizing and taxing cryptocurrency mining.
