Ministry of Health announces lack of Covid vaccines for children

The secretary of Health and Environment Surveillance of the Ministry of Health, Ethel Maciel, said this Friday morning (6) that the new team joined the portfolio amid the shortage of vaccine doses against Covid-19 for children. and with contracts with Butantã paralyzed.

According to Maciel, there is an expectation that Pfizer will deliver 3.2 million doses for children aged 6 months to 4 years old, and 4.5 million doses to serve the public between 5 and 11 years old by the end of January. .

“We inherited the Pfizer contract. Delivery is expected at the end of January. We are renegotiating this contract. We don’t have children’s doses in stock,” she said at a news conference.

The ministry should meet with the pharmaceutical company this Friday (6) to discuss the contract signed during the government of Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

In a note, the Ministry of Health had already informed that it closed a new contract, with the forecast of delivery of 16 million pediatric doses still in the first semester.

For the population over 12 years old, the secretary reported that stocks are stocked, even with the record of stoppage of application of doses in Rio de Janeiro, this week.

The state of Rio stated that there were no doses of the immunizer available, a situation that, according to Ethel, was resolved with the immediate shipment of 300,000 doses.

The secretary also said that “there is no shortage problem. We have excessive inventories. Municipalities ask the states, and states ask the federal government. We are talking with CONASS and CONASEMS to reestablish the flow, to try to identify the problem”.
