The Ministry of Health announced this Thursday (25) that it will expand vaccination coverage against dengue in 625 new municipalities in the country, reaching a total of 1,330 municipalities. The ministry reported that, with the expansion, six more states in the federation will now carry out immunization, reaching a total of 25.
According to the Arbovirus Monitoring Panel, Brazil has 3,852,901 probable cases of the disease, and has reached the mark of 1,792 deaths. Another 2,216 deaths are under investigation.
According to data from the epidemiological week, presented by the Ministry of Health, 11 states are on a downward trend in the number of cases, they are: Acre, Amapá, Distrito Federal, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Norte, Rondônia, Roraima , Santa Catarina and São Paulo.
Another ten states show stability in the registration of probable dengue cases, they are: Alagoas, Amazonas, Bahia, Mato Grosso do Sul, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Sul. And six states showed an increase in cases in the last week, they were: Ceará, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Pará, Sergipe and Tocantins.
At the press conference at the Health Emergency Operations Center, Secretary Ethel Maciel, of Health and Environmental Surveillance, highlighted that care is still needed with the disease. “Although we are on a downward and stabilizing trend in this 2024 epidemic, we need to know that many people will still get sick, many people may become seriously ill, but we can avoid many deaths,” she said.
“It is very important that both families, the person themselves, ourselves, and health professionals are very attentive to the signs, both signs of symptoms for a correct diagnosis, and warning signs”, highlighted the secretary. “We know that to save a life we need hydration, so we need to save as many lives as we can”, concluded the secretary.
During the press conference, Ethel commented on the lower lethality of the disease in 2024 compared to 2023, even with the increase in cases. “Lethality is an indicator that has a numerator and a denominator. In the numerator we will have deaths, and in the denominator we will have all cases. As we had a very large number of cases (in 2024), our denominator is very large, this makes our number (fatality) smaller. The lethality is lower because we had many more cases,” she explained.
Vaccination
According to the Health Surveillance Secretary of the Ministry of Health, 1,682,139 doses of vaccine were sent to the states and the Federal District. Of these 810,686 doses were registered until April 23, while 871,453 doses have not yet been registered.

As of this Thursday (25), only 117,530 doses had been administered in April. The secretary commented on the number below, compared to other months. “This April number draws a little attention, which we expect to be quite out of date. There is a delay in the arrival of this information”, highlighted Maciel.
The states of Alagoas, Rio Grande do Sul, Sergipe, Ceará, Piauí and Mato Grosso . The distribution of the vaccine to the 625 new municipalities should begin on Friday (26).
