Ministry of Health expands flu vaccination for people aged 6 months and over

The Ministry of Health has expanded the age range for flu vaccination to everyone from 6 months of age.

The measure was announced by minister Nísia Trindade Lima on her page on “X”. According to the minister, the strategy of expanding the age range for vaccination was put into practice to try to stop the spread of the flu. “We are bringing forward this measure to respond to the increase in influenza cases,” she said.

Only the North region will not be covered by the expansion of the age group, because flu vaccination in the region was brought forward and took place from November last year.

The minister also explained that municipalities will be able to make specific age group restrictions according to their vaccine stocks, but that this must be done exceptionally.

The Infogripe Bulletin, released by Fiocruz last Thursday (25), warned of an increase in hospitalizations for severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) due to influenza viruses, respiratory syncytial virus and rhinovirus.

Considering positive cases of respiratory viruses, 10.7% of people had Covid-19, 23.4% had influenza A or B, and 57.8% had respiratory syncytial virus.

“We are attentive to the scenarios to always apply vaccination strategies in the best way,” said the minister.
