Ministry of Health warns of delays in the 2nd dose and reinforcement against Covid-19

The Ministry of Health released, this Monday (20), the balance of vaccination against Covid-19 in the country and warned of delays in the second dose and the first booster against the disease.

According to the ministry, more than 22 million people received only the first dose and have an incomplete vaccination cycle. The 18 to 29 age group has the highest percentage of people in arrears, with 5.5 million people.

In relation to the first booster dose, more than 62 million Brazilians able to receive the vaccine did not return to health centers. The biggest gap is also in the population between 18 and 29 years old, with more than 16 million individuals who did not receive the booster.

Booster dose expansion

The Ministry of Health expanded the recommendation for the second booster dose for people aged 40 years or older, who started the vaccination schedule with Coronavac, Pfizer or AstraZeneca.

The orientation of the Ministry of Health is that the immunization is done with the vaccines of Pfizer, AstraZeneca or Janssen, after the interval of four months of the application of the first booster. With the inclusion of this age group, approximately 9 million people should be vaccinated again.

Those who started the vaccination schedule with a single dose of Janssen should also complement protection. According to the ministry, those aged 18 or over should receive a second booster four months after the first booster.

The Ministry of Health also released data on the second booster dose on Monday. Considering only the population over 50 years old, released to receive the vaccine until then, 27 million people have not yet received a new dose. The highest percentage of arrears is among people aged 50 to 59, with 10 million in arrears.
