Ministry of Health will ask Anvisa to authorize Covid-19 self-test

The Ministry of Health wants the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) to authorize the use of self-test for the detection of coronavirus in Brazil.

The information was forwarded to CNN by the executive secretary of the portfolio, Rodrigo Cruz.

According to Cruz, the request will be sent to Anvisa between this Wednesday (12) or Thursday (13).

According to the secretary of the Ministry of Health, the authorization of the self-test for the diagnosis of the disease can be another tool to be used against the spread of the Ômicron variant.

The ministry will send the agency a technical note requesting that Anvisa carry out an assessment on the matter.

There is currently an agency resolution that prohibits the use of self-tests to detect Covid-19 at home.

On Friday (7), Anvisa released a note stating that the adoption of the self-test would depend on the implementation of public policy on the subject.
