Ministry of Health will use Coronavac in children and adolescents

The Ministry of Health decided to use doses of Coronavac in the immunization of children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years against the coronavirus. The information was confirmed to CNN by the department’s communications office.

The decision comes a day after the government of São Paulo started vaccinating children with Coronavac, which mobilized governors of other states to pressure the Ministry of Health for the immediate release of Coronavac. Earlier, the governor of Piauí, Wellington Dias, announced in a note that he received a positive response from the Executive Secretary of the Ministry, Rodrigo Cruz. “I dealt with the secretary. Ministry of Health will incorporate today in the PNI. Great news!” he celebrated.

The Extraordinary Secretariat to Combat Covid-19 prepares the technical note that will formalize the incorporation of the vaccine for use in young people.

“As the minister has already said, vaccines approved by Anvisa are subject to incorporation into the PNI, this must be the path adopted. Today, the ministry has immediate availability of 6 million doses, this is available on the Ministry of Health’s website,” Cruz said this morning.

The folder estimates that, adding to the stocks of the states, the number rises to 9 million doses.

The Butantan Institute, which develops the vaccine, reported this Friday (21) that it received a consultation from the federal government regarding the acquisition of new doses. If the agreement is closed, deliveries could take place between today and Monday.

Some states that are out of stock must receive an emergency amount that the Ministry has in stock so they can start with vaccination.
