The ninth phase of the “Light in Childhood” operation, which seeks to combat child pornography, takes place this Thursday (30) in seven countries and has arrested 28 people – two in Ecuador, one in Costa Rica and 25 in Brazil, including 13 were in the state of São Paulo.
The project investigates crimes of sexual abuse and exploitation on the internet. In total, 163 search and seizure warrants were issued in seven countries, 74 of them in Brazil.
The Ministry of Justice coordinates the action of the Civil Police in the states of Alagoas, Bahia, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso do Sul, Mato Grosso, Pará, Paraíba, Paraná, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo. .
“We have the support of the United States, Argentina, Ecuador, Paraguay, Costa Rica and Panama. About 800 police officers in Brazil and abroad participate in the operation,” said Fernando Oliveira, director of integrated operations at the Ministry of Justice in an interview with CNN .
“The US supports the operation through the Department of Homeland Security, tracking the virtual addresses of these criminals, who operate mainly in the dark web”, explains Oliveira.
The operation began in 2017, and intensified in 2019, with two outbreaks per year. The previous phase had been carried out on June 9, 2021, when 73 people were arrested in the act.
