In a note, this Saturday (30) the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) says that it seized 1,332 packages of five kilos of rice, after the fiscal analysis proved that the grains of this food corresponded to type 5, which did not correspond to the packaging that stated they were type 1.
This action took place in a company located in São José do Rio Preto, which assembled food baskets, and totaled 6,660 kilos of rice that was packaged by a company in Colina (SP)
Furthermore, during the same inspection, Mapa seized two lots of rice, and totaled 2,428 five-kilo packages that had been packaged by another company, located in Rio Grande do Sul, totaling 12,090 kilos.
Therefore, the two actions that were carried out removed 18.75 tons of food.
The difference in the second case of seizures is that the batch of food was presented as type 3 and the other as “out of type” in quality control. This label means that the package contains a high number of broken and yellow grains. Despite this, both labels contained “Type 1 rice” on the packaging, as if it were of the highest quality.
The cases of fraud were announced on Friday (29), after the report proved the attempted deception. The laboratory result showed that the product was seven times the limit established by legislation to reach quality control one.
In a note, Mapa reported that a similar case happened, but with a supermarket chain in Araraquara, where 10.5 tons were seized, which were said to be type one but were type three.
To date, no names have been released, but the body guarantees that all defense rights will be granted to companies.
Both places will have to take action and replace non-conforming batches of seized products with compliant batches. Furthermore, those with the wrong classification will return to industries. This operation must be monitored by tax agents from the States of São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul.
Finally, the Ministry of Agriculture asks consumers, if the quality of the vegetable product is suspected, to report it on the “Fala BR” platform, which is available on the Mapa website itself.
