Tonight, the Kommersant publication published an article stating that Russia could introduce a new tax on foreign game distribution sites, such as Steam, PlayStation Store, Epic Games Store. Now the Ministry of Digital Development, Telecommunications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation (Mintsifry of Russia) has made an official statement on this matter.

The press service immediately emphasizes that the Ministry of Digital Development is against the tax on international gaming platforms. It is noted that the funding of the Fund for Supporting the Development of Game Projects is not planned at the expense of any fees from foreign game distribution sites.
At the same time, as part of the second package of measures to support the IT industry, proposals are being prepared to create a Fund to support the development of gaming projects (computer, mobile and online games) that popularize Russian culture and history. The expected effect is to increase the attractiveness of investments in computer game development projects and the development of the video game development segment.
Deputy Head of the Ministry of Digital Development of Russia Maxim Parshin said:
The introduction of any taxes or fees on foreign digital companies or services, including game distribution, is not considered given the ongoing work on the OECD platform to restructure the taxation system for global international companies (the so-called Pillar 1, Pillar 2). Russia is actively participating in this work and will not make any unilateral decisions.”
