Miramax Sues Quentin Tarantino Over Pulp Fiction NFT Release

Miramax is suing filmmaker Quentin Tarantino for issuing collectible tokens featuring scenes from the movie Pulp Fiction. We are talking about the rights to the materials of the film.

In early November, Tarantino announced that he plans to release seven NFTs at OpenSea, featuring scenes from the uncensored Pulp Fiction movie. It seems that the copyright holder did not like such amateur performance of the director. The lawsuit emphasizes that Tarantino did not warn Miramax about plans to issue NFTs, and also ignored the ban on issuing tokens.

The production company noted that the director claimed his so-called “reverse rights”, which supposedly allow him to release NFT. In this regard, Miramax has filed a claim for breach of contract, misuse of intellectual property and trademark.

“Tarantino’s actions prompted Miramax to file this lawsuit in order to preserve and protect the intellectual property rights to which the company owns. This is one of the most popular and valuable films in the Miramax assets. If these actions are left without consequences, it can lead people to believe that the company participated in the issuance of tokens. And other directors will decide that they can issue such tokens for projects, the rights to which belong to Miramax, ”the lawsuit says.

Earlier, the head of cryptocurrency projects of the Visa payment network, Cuy Sheffield, expressed the opinion that it was NFTs that made the cryptocurrency industry much more interesting and attracted new participants to it.
