Miss Italia, two positive competitors at Covid: the 2021 edition postponed to January

Miss Italy tried to resist until the last but the 2021 edition of the beauty contest is officially postponed. The ceremony was supposed to take place on Sunday, December 19 in live streaming, but the final was skipped at the last minute due to two positive competitors at Covid.

In a press release the patron Patrizia Mirigliani comments on what happened: «We have decided to suspend the event and postpone it to next January, also pending the evolution of the epidemiological situation in general. We are very sorry but we are sure we have made the right decision, why health comes first and the spirit of Miss Italy it has always been to look, first and foremost, at the good of the girls ».

Luigi Brugnaro, mayor of Venice, the city that would host the event for the first time in history: “For us, people’s safety comes first”

The reigning winner of the title, the nineteen year old from Frascati Martina Sambucini, will then have to keep the crown with her for a few more days, waiting to pass the baton to the next queen.

On the other hand, times have changed and the same television event so far had already moved to the web in the 2020 edition conducted by Alessandro Greco (who recalled the event with affection during the recent interview with Vanity Fair) and is now on the platform Helbiz Live with a series of episodes dedicated to getting to know the candidates starting from 13 December with arturo Brachetti. The final episode would have counted on the presence of Elettra Lamborghini at the helm of the program (with the ex Iena Alessandro Di Sarno), a clear attempt to bring the very young band closer to the show.

The competition, born in 1946, has launched many careers, even for those who have not won the coveted scepter. Suffice it to say that just the following year, the then twenty-year-old Gina Lollobrigida (on the throne, on the other hand, Lucia Bosè) was ranked third.

Among the most famous queens of the near past, many passed in front of the camera such as Giusy Buscemi (2012), Miriam Leone (2008), Cristina Chiabotto (2004), Francesca Chillemi (2003), Anna Valle (1995) and Martina Colombari ( in 1991 she was sixteen, so she is the youngest in history). Among the winners of the Eighties, at least two others have left their mark on the entertainment world, Federica Moro (1982) and Roberta Capua (1987).

In the past, the demonstration was conducted by the most beloved faces of TV, from Corrado to Mike Bongiorno, from Pippo Baudo to Fabrizio Frizzi, then passing through Milly Carlucci and Simona Ventura.

Frame of the Bel Paese costume, he has witnessed scandals (the 1976 topless by Annie Papa), protests (such as the coronation of Denny Mendez, due to the color of his skin) and disqualifications, as in the case of 1987 when Mirka Viola held the title only one night, because mothers and wives were excluded from the competition at the time. Even the minor bands have definitely brought luck and Silvia Toffanin (Sasch Girl Top Model Domani Veneto), Elisabetta Gregoraci (Miss Calabria) and Annalisa Minetti (Miss Lombardia) know it well.

In short, the wait is a little longer than expected but it will certainly be rewarded, at least in terms of visibility for the next Miss.
