The Mississippi Senate approved a bill called “The Right to Mining” introduced by Senator Josh Harkins to protect the rights of miners in the state.
The bill allows individuals to run cryptocurrency mining nodes at home and also recognizes the potential of mining to strengthen the economy and stabilize the state’s power grid. If approved by the state House of Representatives, the bill would ban discrimination against miners in electricity rates.
While a negative trend has emerged in several US states to restrict the activities of mining companies under the pretext of causing environmental damage, Mississippi lawmakers are seeking to take advantage of the adoption of bitcoin and its integration into their energy networks.
It’s not just Mississippi that sees bitcoin mining as a productive form of business. For example, Arizona Republican Senator Wendy Rogers has proposed legislators to make amendments to give bitcoin the status of legal tender in the state.
