Feeling at ease during the hottest season necessarily involvesuse of a good deodorant. Passepartout product 365 days a year, in summer the deodorant is indispensable, especially for those who belong to the category of people with significant sweating. And if the use of deodorant is an essential part of the beauty routine, the truth is that it still does today we make some mistakes in use which either render its action ineffective or risk causing damage to the skin.

We asked an expert what habits to forget when it comes to deodorant and the good gestures with which to replace them. Now and immediately.

DEODORANT, HERE ARE THE MISTAKES TO AVOID
As he remembers Andrea Righetti, pharmacist and cosmetologist, «Too often you buy the first deodorant you come across, forgetting that the choice of this product should always be personalized based on the age and skin needs of the individual. In particular, the factor must be taken into account pH: at a young age (never under puberty), yes to deodorants with slightly acidic pH, while in adulthood you can approach the deodorant with classic neutral pH. Another mistake to avoid is to stratify excessive quantities of product. Doing so risks damaging the very delicate glandular physiological systems, with possible inflammation. Still, never apply the deodorant without first having it washed the part well with water and detergent. If you use antiperspirant deodorants (products that boast from 48 to 72 hours in duration), do not repeat the application several times during the day: one is enough. Do not apply deodorant immediately after hair removal or epilation of the part, typically the armpits: for about 12 hours avoid any cosmetics, since the skin will naturally be hypersensitive ».

BETTER DEODORANT OR ANTIPPIRANT?
What changes between deodorant and antiperspirant and, above all, which product is better between the two? Dr. Righetti explains: “The deodorant respects our skin more. It can be natural or chemical, but in both cases it does not completely block sweating and instead prevents the bacterial transformation of those sulfur substances (thiols), characterized by an acrid and unpleasant odor.

On the contrary, the antiperspirant blocks the physiological process of sweating, preventing the droplets of sweat from escaping, and leaving our odor-transforming bacteria dry-mouthed. My advice? Choose a deodorant with excipients and active ingredients that are as skin-friendly as possible and of vegetable origin, such as aloe vera, chamomile, lavender, sage, propolis ».
