Until yesterday, the official narrative of SYRIZA was that Kyriakos Mitsotakis would choose to go to the polls in early autumn (September), but there were not a few who considered that the possibility of early elections is still being “played” and the prime minister’s cube has not been thrown. intentions: Plastigna leaned to “probably yes, he will choose early under the weight of the problems that are just around the corner”, but without being completely convinced.
The president of SYRIZA, however, had put the party on electoral readiness, as it should, hence the directive for everyone to be in their place immediately after the 15th of August.
For the estimates of the official opposition, however, there was a “fuse” the interview of the Prime Minister on Capital.gr (Spyros Dimitrelis) in which Mr. Mitsotakis analyzed in more detail than any other previous, usually sybilical, reference to premature: I do not want them but the country does not tolerate a prolonged pre-election period of toxicity with the responsibility of the opposition.
Elections and toxicity
Koumoundourou “read” the prime minister’s signal on the one hand as a confirmation of the assessments that the elections are before the autumn gates, on the other hand as a trick to blame SYRIZA (mainly) for not going inconsistent in relation to his many months of assurances that government will run out of four years.
A few hours after the publication of the interview, Mr. Tsipras chaired the scheduled meeting of the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA, which had as its object the electoral preparation.
There, during his presentation to its members, convinced that K. Mitsotakis is preparing to “escape” in the autumn, asked the prime minister: To announce the date of the elections and to appoint an acting Minister of Interior for a smooth run to the polls (The replacement of Makis Voridis by another person common to the opposition).
Today follows a meeting of the SYRIZA Parliamentary Group (also scheduled) where Mr. Tsipras is expected to refer even more aggressively to the prime minister’s aspirations.
The background
Otherwise, the meeting of the new Political Secretariat proceeded in a calm atmosphere – pre-election announcement of “charges” to its members ( D. Tzanakopoulos) is in charge of the government program), with Umbrella proceeding with the formulation of proposals for integration in the SYRIZA program, as
1. Indicative adjustment in terms of salaries
2. Suspension of the Energy Exchange and pressure on the EU
3. Supporting retirees by utilizing social resources (P. Skourletis)
4. To become a tough front against the Government on the issue of pushbacks (N. Filis).
Nikos Filis criticized the leadership for not “raising” the issue as much as it should.
Alexis Tsipras, however, does not seem to share his objections.
