Mitsotaki-Draghi meeting in Rome

The meeting of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis with his Italian counterpart Mario Draghi in Rome has as its main topic the European Summit and the big, common energy problem.

At the summit, Draghi will return to the request – of Italy and Greece – to set a maximum price for the gas market. The details will be discussed with Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with the logic that the reduction of gas supply from Moscow to various European countries is another essential reason for the adoption of this energy ceiling.

The main topic of discussion is expected to be the course of accession of the Western Balkan countries to the European Union, aware that given the developments of the months, everything possible should be done to change the attitude of Bulgaria. Also, in view of the Summit, Mitsotakis and Draghi, according to information, will refer to the recent finding of the European Commission that Ukraine and Moldova can be immediately granted the status of EU candidate countries, while Georgia will need a detailed assessment.

And about the southeastern Mediterranean

The situation in the southeastern Mediterranean will be on the agenda of the two prime ministers’ dinner in the Eternal City. The position of the Italian Government is that international law and legitimacy must clearly be respected. An essential message and example in this direction, after all, was given with the agreement signed and ratified by Italy and Greece, for the delimitation of the maritime zones. It is also noted that recently an effort has been made to ease the tone of Italy’s previous confrontations with Turkey and Draghi will pay an official visit to Ankara in early July.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Mario Draghi will finally talk about their meeting and the situation in Libya. Both countries want to be able to continue the whole process of reconciliation, with the aim of holding elections, but also to leave the country, foreign powers and mercenaries. Because there is a risk of destabilization, an explosion of immigration, as well as a possible terrorist threat.
