While some brands summed up the results of 2021 back in December, the Chinese company Xiaomi decided to announce its achievements for the past year only now. In the annual financial report, she revealed not only that she earned 328.3 billion yuan ($52 billion) in 2021, but that the number of MIUI users is only growing year by year.
According to official figures, there are now 510 million active MIUI users in the world. This is 28.4% more than a year earlier. At the same time, only 130 million users of Xiaomi’s proprietary OS live in China. Yes, this is 17% more than in 2020, but with some simple calculations, it turns out that the Chinese domestic market accounts for only a quarter of the active MIUI audience. And about three-quarters of Xiaomi users are residents of other countries.
This, however, is not surprising, given that this Chinese brand is a leading smartphone manufacturer in many regions, especially in emerging markets. According to analytics firm Canalys, Xiaomi is #1 in smartphone sales in 14 countries and is one of the top five brands in another 62 markets. In Europe, Xiaomi smartphones are the second most popular after Samsung.
The increase in the audience of MIUI was facilitated by the growth in sales of Xiaomi mobile devices. As stated in the aforementioned financial report, Xiaomi’s global smartphone shipments hit a record high of 190 million units last year. The annual growth was 30%.
