By the end of the month, the new institutional framework for the licensing of mobile telephony antennas is expected to be announced at the Delphi Economic Forum by the Secretary General of Telecommunications and Posts, Thanassis Staveris.
According to information, the new institutional framework will simplify the installation of base stations on which telecommunications equipment is installed in order to reduce the time required for licensing without, however, changing the criteria and restrictions on radiation. This will be done through the creation of a largely automated process, in line with the recently established standards for satellite dish installations.
The announcement of this regulation was welcomed by the executives of the telecommunications market, as the installation of the necessary infrastructure will be accelerated, so that the fifth generation (5G) mobile networks can operate. The same sources state that the acceleration of the process is necessary, despite the fact that the time of issuing a license has been reduced from about two years to 10-12 months.
It is of particular importance that this process be reduced even more, especially now that we are in an international road race for the development of 5G “, states a typical market executive.
In addition, mobile companies are asking for the harmonization of the limits of exposure to electromagnetic radiation that apply in our country, with what is proposed by the competent international authorities, such as the International Commission for the Protection of Non-Ionizing Radiation (ICNIRP) and the World Health Organization. (WHO) and are implemented by the vast majority of digitally developed countries. And this is because as they note, the criteria that apply in Greece are one of the strictest in Europe.
