The average speed of mobile Internet in Russia has decreased for the first time in ten years. This was reported by Kommersant, citing a study by TelecomDaily.

According to statistics for November, the average data transfer rate in 4G LTE networks showed a slight decrease – to 21.7 Mbps. This happened for the first time since the launch of 4G LTE networks in Russia in 2011-2012. A year ago, the average speed of mobile Internet for the four largest Russian operators (MTS, MegaFon, Beeline, Tele2) reached 24.3 Mbps.
TelecomDaily CEO Denis Kuskov:
The point is that the development and modernization of communication networks do not keep pace with the growth of traffic and the increase in load. “
According to TelecomDaily statistics, the volume of traffic in mobile networks grew by 30% over the year, and over two years – by more than 110%.
It is noted that the statistics were derived on the basis of tens of thousands of measurements in more than 30 largest cities of Russia using a proprietary application, the Megabitus application, which subscribers themselves install on their smartphones.
