The song that went most viral this week in Rio de Janeiro is the samba-plot by Mocidade Independente by Padre Miguel for the 2024 Carnival about cashew, according to Spotify.
The school from the west of the capital of Rio de Janeiro reached the top of the “Viral Rio de Janeiro BR” playlist on the music streaming service, ahead of Oruam, Felipe Ret and MC Cabelinho.
After finishing an unpleasant 11th in the 2023 show, the guiding star chose to rediscover his tropicalist streak so present in his shows in the 1980s and 1990s by delving into the history of cashews, which are a legitimately Brazilian fruit.
The proposal of the group from the west of Rio is to unveil the Brazilianness behind this fruit that was one of the first treasures taken by colonizers when they arrived in Brazil.

The fact that Mocidade's samba leads the “Viral Rio de Janeiro BR” does not mean that it is the most listened to music in the city.
According to Spotify, the playlist shows the songs that are most popular on the platform, they analyze the data only from that specific region and follow three criteria:
- If a song's streams have increased recently;
- How often do people share this song;
- How many people discovered this song recently.
Another school that had already occupied the position in recent weeks was Imperatriz Leopoldinense, current champion of the Rio revelry, with its samba-plot “With luck turned to the moon, according to the testament of the gypsy Esmeralda”.
Unidos de Padre Miguel, a school that shares the neighborhood with Mocidade, reached 11th place on the playlist with its samba “O Redentor do Sertão”. She parades in the second division of Rio's festivities, the Ouro Series.
