During a press conference this Friday (9), Voepass representatives stated that the ATR-72 model aircraft that crashed in Vinhedo, in the interior of São Paulo, was more sensitive to ice.
“The aircraft has flight characteristics that make it a little more sensitive in icy situations. No hypothesis is being ruled out at this time. Cenipa is already in action and we are working side by side to provide all the information and actively participating in the investigations,” said Marcel Moura, Voepass operations director.
The formation of ice on the aircraft’s wings has been one of the hypotheses raised by experts that could explain the crash.
In this case, what may have happened to the aircraft is the formation of ice on the wings and controls in such a way as to affect the flight characteristics, resulting in a loss of lift that leads to an uncontrolled loss of altitude.
“The plane is sensitive to ice, it is a starting point, but it is still too early to draw any conclusions regarding the event,” added Moura.
The plane, which was carrying 57 passengers and four crew members, left the city of Cascavel, in Paraná, bound for Guarulhos Airport, in SP.
The aircraft was making its second trip this Friday, and was scheduled for two more.
The investigations will be conducted by the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa). The Federal Police will also investigate the accident.
The National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) stated that the aircraft was up to date with maintenance.
Voepass also reported that all customers who had trips scheduled for this Friday and Saturday (10) were notified about the accident.
According to representatives, some people have suspended scheduled trips with the company. Voepass has 15 commercial aircraft in operation in the country.
The company also reported that it has already contacted the insurance company to provide all support to passengers.
